Scientists discovered special cells called "zombie" cells that build up in our bodies as we get older and can damage our livers by causing swelling and inflammation [when your body's tissues get puffy and sore]. In an amazing experiment, when researchers removed these zombie cells from old mice, the damage to their livers actually went away! This discovery could help doctors find new ways to treat liver disease and help people stay healthier as they age.
