Space Telescope Finds a Scorching Metal-Melting Planet Made of Dark Rock

Photo: Wolfgang Hasselmann / Unsplash
The James Webb Space Telescope just spotted an amazing planet called LHS 3844 b that's so hot it could melt metal! This dark, rocky world is only 48 light-years away [that's about 450 trillion kilometers] and has no air or atmosphere around it—making it look a lot like Mercury, the closest planet to our Sun. Scientists are super excited because this helps them understand what distant planets are really made of, and it proves that strange worlds totally unlike Earth are waiting to be discovered!
