Scientists have successfully engineered stem cells from umbilical cord blood into powerful, off-the-shelf T cells capable of targeting solid tumors through two separate detection systems. In laboratory tests, a single dose effectively controlled cancer and extended survival rates while safely avoiding a common, dangerous complication of donor-derived therapies.
